CLARK, Philippines (AP) — Philippine Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana declared the last of the pro-Islamic State group militants in southern Marawi city "finished" Monday, exactly five months after the start of the siege that sparked fears of the group gaining a foothold in Southeast Asia.

Speaking at an annual meeting of Southeast Asian defense ministers, Lorenzana told reporters that troops recovered 42 bodies of the last group of militants.

"Those are the last group of stragglers of Mautes and they were caught in one building so there was a firefight, so they were finished," he said.

Two security officials had told The Associated Press earlier Monday that troops had found the bodies after capturing the building w

HONG KONG (AP) — It wasn't just the dark-suited delegates in Beijing who were listening intently last week as Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined his grand ambitions to launch a twice-a-decade Communist Party congress.

On China's peripheries there was apprehension and optimism as Xi, China's strongest leader in decades, reasserted his authority over semiautonomous Hong Kong and self-governing Taiwan.

Xi declared that Hong Kong, where residents are increasingly divided over Beijing's rule of the former British colony, and Taiwan, where voters elected an independence-leaning president last year amid rising alienation from the mainland, are part of a "great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation" led by the Communist Party.

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — A U.S. diplomat apologized to Indonesia's government Monday after the top Indonesian general was prevented from traveling to Washington, but a Jakarta official said the country expected a complete explanation.

Erin McKee, the deputy U.S. ambassador to Indonesia, did not explain why Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo was prevented from boarding a flight to the U.S. but said the matter had been resolved.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — To Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, this was simply an extension of last February's Super Bowl.

For the Atlanta Falcons, it was another dose of football pain.

By the end of New England's clinical 23-7 romp through the fog Sunday night, it was clear that the Patriots have straightened out what ailed them earlier this season. And that the Falcons are a shadow of the team that built a 25-point third-quarter lead in that championship game, only to fall apart and lose the first overtime contest in Super Bowl history.

Brady led that historic comeback, and he guided an offense that dominated the clock when the score was relatively close. Plus, unlike in the last meeting, he had a strong defens

DOHA, Qatar (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson took the Trump administration's case for isolating and containing Iran in the Middle East and beyond to two Gulf Arab nations on Sunday, pushing for Saudi Arabia and Iraq to unite to counter growing Iranian assertiveness. He also called for a quick resolution to the ongoing crisis between Qatar and its Arab neighbors, which he said was unintentionally bolstering Iran.

In Saudi Arabia and later Qatar, Tillerson denounced Iran's "malign behavior" and urged nations of the region and elsewhere, notably Europe, to join the administration to halt any business they do with Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard.

BOSTON (AP) — Jury deliberations are set to begin in the case of a Massachusetts pharmacist charged with murder in the 2012 meningitis outbreak that killed 76 people.

Jurors in Glenn Chin's case are expected to start deliberating in Boston's federal courthouse on Monday.

Chin was the supervisory pharmacist at the now-closed New England Compounding and oversaw the rooms where the drugs were made.

The 2012 outbreak of fungal meningitis and other infections was blamed on contaminated injections of medical steroids, given mostly to people with back pain.

Prosecutors say Chin failed to properly sterilize the drugs and instructed his staff to use expired ingredients and ignore cleaning.

Arion Worthman, Air Force QB

The Air Force quarterback ran 30 times for 166 yards on 30 carries with five touchdowns. He also completed 4 of 8 passes for 72 yards. Included in his completions were a 27-yard pass to tight end Ryan Reffitt on third and 24 on the final play of the third quarter, setting up a touchdown, and a 34-yard connection to Ronald Cleveland to put the Falcons in the red zone for the game-winner. Not on the stat sheet was an option pitch to Garrett Amy in which Worthman, while being tackled, pitched the ball over a defender to Amy for a 14-yard gain to set up a score.

PUEBLO - Cheyenne Mountain's boys' tennis team earned its best finish in five years without a single position in a championship match.

On Saturday at Pueblo City Park, the Indians, who advanced five positions to Saturday's third-place matches, finished third with 35 points in their best performance in the state tournament since winning the 4A boys' title in 2012.

"Our goal was to try to get at least some people into Saturday," longtime Cheyenne Mountain coach Dave Adams said. "We wanted to finish in the top five."

Connor Larson of Dawson School defeated Cheyenne Mountain's Christian Ridings 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles in just the second of two matches Saturday to go to three sets.
