SOCHI, Russia (AP) — Germany coach Joachim Loew says he has offered Leon Goretzka advice on his club future as the midfielder is linked with a move away from Schalke.

The 22-year-old Goretzka, who has a year remaining on his Schalke contract, has put in strong performances as part of an inexperienced Germany side at the Confederations Cup.

Loew says he's had long conversations with Goretzka about "different possible scenarios" in his career.

Through a translator, Loew says he "wanted to know what (Goretzka) was thinking and what kind of opportunities he envisaged. I certainly spoke my mind."

Loew isn't ready to discuss the details.

Goretzka says when there are facts he will be "publicizing them and what my

SOCHI, Russia (AP) — Perhaps keeping the ball on the ground should be the order from air traffic control rather than coaches in this southern Russian coastal resort.

A FIFA-assigned training ground, used so far by Australia and Cameroon at the Confederations Cup, is directly on the flight path into Sochi's airport.

After passing over the Black Sea, the final kilometer of the descent sees planes roar directly over the pitch before touching down on the runway.

The airplanes can appear deceptively close for players training for the 2018 World Cup warm-up tournament. According to the flight tracking app Plane Finder, aircraft are less than 70 meters off the ground as they drop over the pitch.

BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) — Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas posted the fastest time over Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen in an eventful third and final practice for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, ahead of qualifying later Saturday.

Bottas was .095 quicker than Raikkonen and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton was third quickest — 0.416 behind — with Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo fourth best. Championship leader Sebastian Vettel drove his Ferrari cautiously and finished the difficult session a lowly 12th.

After a hectic two sessions on Friday, drivers were again severely tested on the 6-kilometer (3.7-mile) street circuit, which is volatile and unpredictable due to a combination of long straights, blistering track temperatures and hard-brakin

MOSCOW (AP) — Claudio Bravo is fit again and could start in goal against Australia at the Confederations Cup on Sunday, Chile coach Juan Antonio Pizzi said Saturday.

Bravo — who is Chile's joint most-capped player with Alexis Sanchez — hasn't played since April 27, when he injured his calf for Manchester City in a derby game with Manchester United.

"Claudio is fit, he's managed to train the last couple of days just like his other teammates," Pizzi said. "He's ready and available to play."

Pizzi brushed off concerns about a lack of match fitness, saying that "quite obviously we take into account that factor" but players like Bravo are "are of such good quality that it isn't that important they haven't played in the

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea President Moon Jae-in said Saturday he hopes to see North Korean athletes at next year's Winter Olympics in South Korea to ease tensions over the North's nuclear program.

Moon made the comments during the opening ceremony of the world taekwondo championships in the South Korean town of Muju, where a North Korean delegation led by International Olympic Committee member Chang Ung was also present.

The championships, which will feature a performance by the North Korean taekwondo demonstration team, mark the first sports exchange between the Koreas since the liberal Moon took office in May.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Luis Perdomo's first scoreless outing of the season came at a great time for the San Diego Padres.

Perdomo (2-4) pitched two-hit ball over six innings, Austin Hedges had an RBI double and the Padres handed the Detroit Tigers their seventh straight loss, 1-0 on Friday night.

Having allowed at least one run in each of his starts, Perdomo outworked Detroit's Michael Fulmer and did not allow a hit until the fifth. Perdomo struck out six and walked five.

"I was able to make that adjustment, and luckily I was able to make it early on, early enough in the game that it was able to keep me in the game and make some pitches tonight," Perdomo said.

For first time since 2012, Rhys Millen returns to the Time Attack Division of The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. And this Sunday, he has some business to take care of.

Back in 2012, Millen set a Time Attack division record when he blazed up the mountain in 9 minutes, 46.16 seconds. But his time was short-lived, as Paul Dallenbach dethroned it with a 9:46.001 in 2013.

Millen's goal is to reclaim his lost record. And he believes he is on track to do so.

"In our very first run in qualifying today, we just went four seconds faster than I ever had gone in this car and set a new qualifying record for the division and the third fastest overall," Millen said Thursday.

DENVER — Trading down in the first round with Utah, the Denver Nuggets acquired Syracuse forward Tyler Lydon with the 24th pick in the NBA draft Thursday night and added veteran forward Trey Lyles from the Jazz.

The Nuggets entered the draft with the No. 13 overall pick, using it to select Louisville guard Donovan Mitchell, whose rights were then traded to Utah in return for the Jazz's No. 24 pick and Lyles, who was the 12th overall pick out of Kentucky two years ago.

In his two seasons with the Jazz, Lyles has averaged 6.1 points and 3.5 rebounds while playing primarily off the bench.

Lydon led Syracuse in rebounding (8.6 per game) and ranked second in scoring (13.2 points per game) last season, bringing another physical presence to the Nuggets' front court.

The third-highest scoring team in the NBA last season, the Nuggets finished the year 40-42, placing ninth in the Western Conference to just miss the playoffs. But they struggled on the defensive end and envision Lyles and Lydon bolstering the Nuggets' defensive presence around the rim.

DENVER — Hear this through, because it’s not as bad as it sounds.

Yet. But ask me when free agency is over. For now, the Nuggets had a bad draft night on Tuesday. That’s partly because they should have taken Derrick White with the No. 24 pick. He was there — the rare born-raised-and-schooled first-round pick from right here in Colorado — and just itching to stay home. Derrick’s story — from a guy with two scholarship offers to a Division II All-American at UCCS to All-Pac-12 in Boulder to the NBA draft — is so improbable that Hollywood would toss it away for being too unbelievable. Instead, White went to the San Antonio Spurs at No. 29.

SAN ANTONIO — Surreal.

That is the only way former UCCS and CU star Derrick White could describe his ascension from a high school player with 1 1/2 college scholarship offers to becoming a first-round pick of the vaunted San Antonio Spurs. San Antonio selected White with the No. 29 pick in the NBA draft on Thursday night.

"It's crazy to be a part of the Spurs organization," White said. "They have a great history and Coach Pop (Gregg Popovich) has done an amazing job there. I just want to get there and join the Spurs way."

DENVER — Zack Godley got off to a rough start, quickly recovered and turned in a gem for the surging Arizona Diamondbacks.

Godley shook off a leadoff home run to throw well into the eighth inning, Paul Goldschmidt and Chris Owings hit three-run homers, and the Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 10-3 on Thursday.

Goldschmidt finished with three hits and four RBIs to increase his season total to 64, tops in the majors.

Arizona took two of three in the NL West matchup and is now tied with Colorado for second place in the division behind the Dodgers. The Diamondbacks have won 12 of 14 and are a season-high 19 games above .500 after a 7-1 road trip.

"We came in here and did what we needed to do," Godley

Colorado College hockey fans will have several reasons to follow this weekend's NHL Draft with three or four future Tigers under consideration.

Four incoming players grabbing the most attention are Minnesota high school defenseman Robbie Stucker, 18, who was ranked No. 88 among 247 North American skaters listed in the final rankings released by NHL Central Scouting prior to Friday and Saturday's selections at Chicago’s United Center.

The St. Thomas Academy blue-liner may sign with CC during the current NCAA signing period, which ends on Aug. 1, and join the team in fall 2018.
