SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — The Latest on talks between North and South Korea (all times local):

5 p.m.

South Korea's president says fielding a joint ice hockey team with North Korea during next month's Winter Olympics would be a historic event that moves the hearts of people around the world.

Moon Jae-in's office says the president made the remarks during a meeting with South Korean athletes on Wednesday.

South Korea wants the International Olympic Committee to allow several North Korean players to join the South Korean women's hockey team, in what would be the rivals' first unified Olympic team.

Moon said a joint team could boost inter-Korean ties.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A last-minute proposal to form a joint North Korean-South Korean women's hockey team for next month's Olympics has sparked concern that it could be a bad move for the South Korean players.

A South Korean official tried to respond to the fears Wednesday.

"It is the government's basic stance that we will make sure there is no negative impact on our athletes," said Baik Tae-hyun, a spokesman for the Unification Ministry. He didn't elaborate.

His comment came one day after the team's coach told reporters that she was shocked by the development and said it could be harmful to the players, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea plans to send a 230-member cheering squad to South Korea as part of its delegation to next month's Winter Olympics, Seoul officials said Wednesday, the latest in a series of conciliatory gestures the North has abruptly taken recently following a year of heightened nuclear tension.

North Korea informed South Korea of the size of its Olympic cheering squad when officials from the rivals met at the border for the third time in less than 10 days to discuss how to cooperate in the Olympics.

A flurry of Olympics-related meetings has provided a tentative thaw in long-strained ties between the Koreas. But the North's reluctance to discuss its nuclear weapons program is raising skepticism over h

On skates before preschool, and growing a competitive fire and a love for the sport.

But Tuesday the Sykes brothers, Cameron and Spencer, were no longer teammates, they were competitors.

Cameron, a junior, completed his transfer from Pine Creek to cross-town rival Rampart at the beginning of the year, just as Spencer solidified himself as a talented freshman starter for the Eagles.

“Spencer and I are really close, but I had to push him around a little bit,” Cameron said. “It was a lot of fun playing against him.”

The Sykes family was a house divided on Tuesday with rooting interested in both teams.

DENVER – This is going to sound premature, like hysterical media treating 2 inches of snow like the end of humankind as we know it. I get that. It’s only January, and the NBA season rolls all the way into April.

So the point I’m about to make — that the Nuggets are in danger of missing the playoffs, if somebody doesn’t give them a swift kick to the backside — comes with a self-aware disclaimer: we’re just over halfway through the season, with 38 games left to be played. That's a lot of ball still on the calendar.

But there’s no way anyone but Rocky the SuperMascot could stroll outside Pepsi Center and into the cold and have warm and fuzzy feelings about the way the

In 14 seasons as volleyball coach at Cheyenne Mountain, David Barkley witnessed some amazing things.

Winning five straight 4A state championships - and six overall - along with 14 regional titles and 350 wins certainly provided plenty of memories. An .858 winning percentage won't be beat by many, either.

But those highlights can't compare to truly his most cherished moments on the court.

"The best thing about my time at Cheyenne Mountain is that I got to coach all three of my daughters," said Barkley, who recently turned in his resignation as Indians coach, a post he had held since 2004. "And all three did win titles while they were there, and that was great to be a part of.

PARK CITY, Utah — Gus Kenworthy's life has changed, and unlike most athletes who make it big at the Olympics, it's only partly because of the medal he won.

When he left Sochi four years ago, Kenworthy was known as the silver medal-winning, dog-saving freestyle skier who was part of a historic U.S. medals sweep in the first Olympic ski slopestyle contest.

His supposedly perfect stay in Russia was something much less, however, mainly because of the secret he kept. He was gay but would not tell the world for almost two more years. Now that he has gotten that out in the open, he feels a great sense of relief, but he also is aware that his newfound comfort comes at a price. Fair or not, his next trip to the Olympics, next

College football teams place a wide assortment of running backs, tackles, linebackers, defensive backs and receivers on the field. Plenty of playing time beckons for a hungry, talented prospect.

College football teams place one quarterback on the field, and his backups spend Saturdays watching from the sideline. Some of those backups spend their entire careers watching.

This is the reality that awaits Ty Evans, the Palmer Ridge senior-to-be quarterback who announced Monday he plans to play for Mike McIntyre and the Colorado Buffs.

Evans will arrive in Boulder in the fall of 2019 to compete with a collection of other high school quarterback stars. All will boast astronomical prep statistics. All will be hometown

DENVER — We’re going to break some rules here.

Nothing major; nobody’s going to journalism jail. But this column here — on the rip-roaring, fun-as-rollercoasters Colorado Avalanche — doesn’t fit in with the everything must be serious side of sports.

We’re not calling for anybody’s job.

We’re not tossing out potential trades.

We’re not even forecasting if the Avs are a playoff team, or if they are still too young for that next step and destined to hockey’s pit of misery, dilly, dilly.

What we are doing — what the Avs are doing, to be accurate — is bringing entertaining hockey back to Pepsi Center.

Colorado Springs’ best college recruit is staying in The Centennial State.

After countless visits to Division I programs around the country, Palmer Ridge quarterback Ty Evans has decided he wants to stay in Colorful Colorado as a Colorado University Buffalo.

“Colorado football has always meant a lot to me growing up and going to camps and growing up a Buffs fan,” Evans said. “I have a lot or pride being a Colorado kid, and being a quarterback I want to be a part of putting Colorado football on the map, and making them a top 25 program again.
