Days after the NFL declined to change its rule on the national anthem, about two dozen players protested around the league Sunday.

Associated Press journalists counted 22 players protesting during the anthems in some way before day games. Some took a knee, others sat on the bench, stayed in the tunnel or raised a fist.

On Sept. 25, days after President Trump said players should be fired for protesting during the anthem, more than 200 players protested.

On Sunday, the Seahawks and 49ers had the most protesters. Seattle defensive end Michael Bennett and seven Seahawks teammates did not stand before their game with the New York Giants.

Air Force’s season is turning into a redemption campaign, righting wrongs not only from this season but from years past.

Four years ago, this program went into Nevada and lost 45-42. On Friday night, Air Force flipped that result with a victory by the same 45-42 score.

Last week, the Falcons (3-4, 2-2 Mountain West) scored the go-ahead touchdown with 2:14 remaining, then held UNLV on the final drive to secure the victory. This was in direct contrast to its previous game when it had scored the go-ahead touchdown with 1:53 remaining but couldn’t prevent Navy from seizing victory in the waning moments.

And on a personal note, this was a redemptive moment for kicker Luke Strebel, whose field goal as time

Trevor Gooch scored 1:03 into overtime to hand No. 17 New Hampshire its first defeat of the season, 2-1, on Saturday night in Durham, N.H.

Gooch’s shot clanged in top shelf, lifting Colorado College (4-2) to a series split. Alex Leclerc made 39 saves in a much-improved effort against what was previously Division I’s only 5-0 team.

The Tigers dropped Friday’s game in New Hampshire 6-3, giving up two power-play goals on three chances. The penalty kill clamped down Saturday, killing off two lengthy stretches of five-on-three play.

“I thought we deserved that win, especially the last 10 minutes – we were all over them,” Gooch told KRDO radio after the game.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Montell Cozart rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another to help Boise State beat Wyoming 24-14 Saturday night.

After pulling an upset last week on the road against San Diego State, the Broncos (5-2, 3-0 Mountain West) appeared flat early, mustering only 118 yards in the first half — just 29 of that through the air.

Trailing 7-3 to start the second half, the Broncos cobbled together an 18-play, 71-yard drive that consumed 9:46 and ended on a 4-yard touchdown run by Cozart.

Wyoming (4-3, 2-1) answered with a 20-yard scoring strike from Josh Allen to Austin Fort to take a 17-14 lead late in the third quarter.

In the fourth, Boise State took control of the game.

HOUSTON (AP) — CC Sabathia doesn't sound like he wants to be finished with the New York Yankees, even though they are done this season.

"I feel like this is a young team, and we will turn this into something great," Sabathia said. "This is my home, and I want to see this thing through."

LOS ANGELES (AP) — No matter which opponent emerged from the seven-game AL Championship Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers could watch from home knowing they're sitting pretty.

On Saturday night, they found out who they'll play in the World Series — the Houston Astros are heading out West to face them.

The Dodgers earned a four-day break through their quick resolution of the NLCS, which ended Thursday in Chicago with Los Angeles' seventh win in eight playoff games. The extended breaks between their two brief playoff series have allowed the 104-win Dodgers to keep their starting rotation in order and on full rest, and to give plenty of recovery time to their dominant bullpen.

For 26 years I’ve dealt with the ups and downs of being a Philadelphia sports fan. Sometimes it’s good. Sometimes it’s very, very bad.

I joke that I’m a ‘recovering Philly sports addict’ - but let’s be real - I relapse every time I see a glimpse of hope in the City of Brotherly Love - and right now, it’s all good in the neighborhood - or at least it will be.

The Flyers top line is finally clicking. They have some of the best young players in the league, including the 2017 No. 2 overall draft pick Nolan Patrick - who I lovingly named my kitten - Nolan Catrick - after. AHL prospects are moving up and making an impact. Our captain is being a captain.

<![CDATA[Sun blog: I’m a loyal Sacramento Kings fan, even when they’re bad almost all the time]]> http://gazette.com/sun-blog-im-a-loyal-sacramento-kings-fan-even-when-theyre-bad-almost-all-the-time/article/1613706?custom_click=rss http://gazette.com/sun-blog-im-a-loyal-sacramento-kings-fan-even-when-theyre-bad-almost-all-the-time/article/1613706?custom_click=rss

Yes, I was raised in the Bay Area.

But no, I’m not a Warriors fan.

I’m a — takes a deep breath — a Sacramento Kings fan.

It might be because my family eventually moved more inland to Modesto, Calif., which is closer to other NBA teams that aren’t from Los Angeles. Still, I started seeing a lot of Warriors fans popping up in my adopted hometown of Modesto when they started getting good the past few years. Not me. Never.

I’m always going to remain a Kings fan. Unfortunately.

Even tonight, when they take on the Nuggets in their home opener in Denver.

My loyalty to the Kings is unconditional, like that hooptie you drove throughout high school.

DENVER — On a sun-soaked Colorado afternoon in May, Broncos executive vice president of football operations John Elway and coach Vance Joseph went to work at Sports Authority Field.

Their non-football assignment on that day was the John Lynch Foundation’s “Salute the Stars,” an annual event that rounded up $118,000 in scholarship money for deserving, inspiring high school athletes who aspire to greatness.

“Success should be measured by happiness,” Joseph told the scholarship recipients from a snazzy stage below the south stands inside Mile High Stadium. “When you find your happiness, that’s your success.”

There was no happiness last week in Broncoville.

New Hampshire freshman defenseman Max Gildon scored three goals in the first two periods and Colorado College's special teams had a bad night in a 6-3 loss in Durham, N.H.

The No. 17 Wildcats (5-0) took four trips to the penalty box with CC down in the third period, but the Tigers (3-2) couldn't get back into the game. Colorado College went 1 for 6 on the power play and the penalty kill gave up two goals on three power plays.

"Certainly we've got to shore up that PK a little bit more, but we had a lot of chances to score," coach Mike Haviland told KRDO after the game.

The Wildcats pounced early as Gildon scored 1:58 into the game after Kristian Blumenschein took a tripping penalty.
