The Royal Gorge fire west of Canon City was declared 100 percent contained at 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the Bureau of Land Management.
The BLM says smoke may continue to be visible in the fire area because of isolated pockets of unburned fuel inside the containment lines.
Command of the fire will transition back to local fire units at 6 a.m. Monday.
The Royal Gorge fire, which started at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, burned 3,218 acres.
The fire started on the south side of the Arkansas River at the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park. Hundreds of people were hastily evacuated out of the area, including more than 900 inmates from the Territorial Prison. Of the 52 structures at the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, only four were left standing. The bridge remains intact.
