The Colorado Rockies on Sunday activated outfielder-first baseman Ian Desmond from the disabled list before Sunday's game with the New York Mets.
To make room for Desmond on the roster, the Rockies placed starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood on the disabled list.
The Rockies put Desmond on the DL on July 3 with a right calf strain.
Chatwood (6-11) got only one out and threw just five of 19 pitches for strikes while walking three of the five batters he faced Saturday. After giving up Jay Bruce's three-run shot to straightaway center field, the right-hander was checked on the mound by manager Bud Black and a trainer.
Chatwood made three wide practice pitches and was replaced by lefty Chris Rusin.
Chatwood was diagnosed with a right calf strain, according to the Rockies.
