Roads, schools closed due to fires (Friday)

Here are a list of closures resulting from the Black Forest fire. If you're aware of additional closures or cancellations, send an email to so we can add them to our list.


- Colorado 83's northbound and southbound lanes are closed between mile markers 21-28. Multiple local roads are closed in Black Forest, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation's website.


- All activities and programs at Lewis-Palmer District 38 -- including summer school, ESY, ELL and MyPlace -- are cancelled Friday.

- Monument Academy Charter School is closed Friday.

- Pikes Peak Community College Rampart Range Campus is closed due to voluntary evacuation. The campus will be open Friday from 9-10 a.m. for those needing to retrieve belongings.

- Hope Montessori Monument is closed Friday.

- KinderCare Learning Centers: Middle Creek Parkway is closed Friday.

- KinderCare Learning Centers: Baptist Road is closed Friday.

- Monument Academy Charter School is closed Friday.

- Pikes Peak Library District Monument Library is closed Friday.

Meetings & Events

- In light of the Black Forest fire, the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is cancelling its planned exhibit preview for "From the Ashes: The Waldo Canyon Fire," scheduled for June 20, and its first responders appreciation event, scheduled for June 21. The exhibit will open June 22 without preview to the public. The museum's operating hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

- The Black Rose Acoustic Society has moved Friday night's Canote Bros. show from the Black Forest Community Center to the Ivywild School. It will begin at 7 p.m.

- The Black Rose Acoustic Society Haunted Windchimes concert, scheduled for June 21 at the Black Forest Community Center, has been canceled.

- The Pikes Peak Community Foundation and Venetucci Farm have postponed their barn-raising campaign launch and farm open house, which were scheduled for Saturday. The farm will be open to visitors from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., but all activities have been postponed.

- The 2013 Range Ride has been canceled. The Colorado Springs Street Breakfast will continue as scheduled.

- Friday's Flying W Wranglers concert at the Tri-Lakes Center for The Arts has been canceled.

- The El Paso County Speedway has canceled the Ted Schubert Memorial Back Row Challenge, which was scheduled for Saturday. The event will be rescheduled. Check for updates.

- A community meeting will be held Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon at Palmer Ridge High School, 19255 Monument Hill Road, Monument. It has been moved from Lewis Palmer High School. The meeting, hosted by District 1 El Paso County Commissioner Darryl Glenn and District 5 County Commissioner Peggy Littleton, will focus on the Black Forest fire. Representatives from the Colorado Office of Emergency Management, El Paso County Public Health, the El Paso County Disaster Assistance Center and other offices will be on hand to offer information and assistance. "We want to share the information we have available, to listen residents concerns and assure them that we are a community and we will pull together to get through this," Glenn said in a press release.


-New Life Church is closed Friday.

-Family of Christ is closed Friday.

- Grace Community Church in Falcon has cancelled all activities through Saturday.

Child Care & Recreation

- Day campers registered at the Meridian Ranch YMCA should report to the Briargate YMCA, 4025 Family Place, according to the Pikes Peak YMCA Facebook page at The Meridian Ranch YMCA is open, however.


- All United States Postal Service personnel, mail and operations at the Elbert Post Office have been moved to the nearby Kiowa Post Office. Customers who receive their mail in Elbert through a post office box or on a route can pick up their mail at the Kiowa office, 708 Comanche St., Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Saturday, 7:30-10:30 a.m.


The Royal Gorge Park is closed.

- Pueblo Community College's Fremont Campus in Ca?n City is closed, according to a Friday posting on the college's website at Students are asked to access their classes through Desire2Learn (D2L) until further notice.
