Air Force is taking a weeklong break from spring practice as freshmen go through recognition training.

I figured the pause presented a good opportunity to debut my Ridiculously Early Look at the Air Force Football Depth Chart.

You may recall that last year’s version was released after the first weekend of spring practice in late February. I gave this year’s version a bit more time because of the massive amount of turnover.

Like last year’s, this early look comes with the disclaimer that errors could very well exist. Many of these names do not yet appear on any rosters. So years could be off. I could also have observed some of these at a point when they were working with a group other than their own. I could also be overlooking an injured player. The coaching staff played no role in compiling this list.

But for the most part, this represents where Air Force currently stands and can therefore be used as a point of comparison to see who makes a move in spring and, later, in fall practice.

“There is not a guy out here – other than maybe a couple – that you could maybe use some permanent ink,” defensive coordinator Steve Russ said. “We have a long, long way to go. Especially in the secondary.”

The secondary is the position that has already seen the most jostling for position this spring. In the most recent practice cornerback Dailen Sutton, who will be a junior, and safety James Jones, who will be sophomore, moved up to the first group.

Anyway, here’s the Ridiculously Early Look at Air Force’s 2017 Football Depth Chart, as observed by The Gazette’s Brent Briggeman…
