An alleged home invasion attempt was stopped Wednesday night by two residents who restrained him until officers arrived, police said.
Lorenzo Fondzel Brooks, 44, was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, possession of a weapon by a previous offender and misdemeanor charges, police said. Brooks was held at the El Paso County jail Thursday, records show.
Brooks and two unidentified men allegedly forced their way into a home at the Verde Meadows Apartments on South Chelton Road just before midnight, police said.
Two residents fought back and an altercation ensued, when one of the burglars allegedly fired off a round from a handgun, striking a television, police said.
Police arrived to find a man and a woman restraining a man, identified as Brooks, down on the floor, police said. The other two men fled before police arrived.
Brooks resisted arrest and an officer had to subdue him with a stun gun, police said. A handgun was found after Brooks was taken into custody, police said.
The residents of the apartment were treated for minor injuries suffered in the scuffle, police said.
