PUEBLO — A judge has rejected a plea agreement for a Pueblo West man charged with killing a kitten that would have limited a Pueblo West man's sentence to probation.

The Pueblo Chieftain reported Monday (http://tinyurl.com/pkqopu6 ) the judge instead set a June 10 trial for 25-year-old Robert Heckmann.

Heckmann is charged with aggravated animal cruelty. The maximum sentence for conviction is 18 months in prison.

Prosecutors alleged Heckmann sent a video of the kitten's death to his girlfriend.

He was arrested Jan. 19 after authorities found the body of a 12-week-old kitten in a garbage can at his home.

Sheriff's deputies at one point increased security at the home because the family reported threatening language had been posted on social media.
