At Discovery Canyon: McKenzie Surface cranked two home runs to lead Discovery Canyon (2-0, 1-0) past Falcon in the Pikes Peak League season opener for both squads.
Surface (2-0) finished 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored to help her pick up the win on the mound. The senior pitched the complete game and held Falcon (0-1) to two unearned runs on seven hits while fanning nine.
Surface has yet to allow an earned run in 13 innings and has piled up 17 strikeouts.
Destiny Lackey was 3 for 4 with two runs scored.
Air Academy 7,
Palmer Ridge 4
At Air Academy: A three-run third inning helped Air Academy earn its second straight victory, and first of the year in Pikes Peak League action.
The Kadets (2-1, 1-0) then extended their lead to 5-2 by tacking on two more runs in the the fifth.
Madysen Kearns had three hits for Palmer Ridge (2-1, 0-1) with two doubles and two RBIs.
The junior was tagged with her first loss after giving up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and four walks while striking out five. Kearns saw her 14 inning shutout streak snapped in the bottom of the second.
Teammate Libby Acker finished 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI.
Sand Creek 4, Vista Ridge 3
At Vista Ridge: Sand Creek used a four-run fifth inning to pick up its first win of the season in each team's Pikes Peak League season opener.
The Scorpions (1-4, 1-0) ended their four-game losing skid.
Vista Ridge (2-3, 0-1) spoiled a strong showing by starting pitcher Kellie Mrofcza, who struck out 13 in a complete game.
Cheyenne Mountain 7, Lewis-Palmer 6
At Cheyenne Mountain: Bridget Gleason had a team-high three hits and scored two runs to help Cheyenne Mountain to its first Pikes Peak League win.
Meghan Andrews and Hayley Cobb each knocked in two RBIs for the Indians (2-0, 1-0).
No stats were reported for Lewis-Palmer (0-1, 0-1).
Doherty 6, Sand Creek 1
At Doherty: The Spartans swept Sand Creek in doubles' action to propel themselves to victory.
Mitchell Palmer and Dan Slaugh teamed up to win their No. 1 doubles match against Andrei Mahoney and Timothy Swanson, while in No. 2 doubles it was Andrew Johnston and Tyler Bistline defeating Isaac Saucedo and Gabriel Gallegos.
In No. 3 doubles, Alex Stems and Jake Shewey were victorious 6-3, 7-5 over William McCadden and Chris Lowe.
Colorado Springs School 0
At Widefield: The Gladiators took care of business against Colorado Springs School at home.
Marcos Salazar, Dominique Warren and Nick Scholl did the damage in single's action. Devyn Taijeron, Dekota Bustamantes, Caleb Kahre, Calen Orosco, Hunter Johnson, Rashad McKinney, Elijah Yates and Tristen Morton won their respective doubles' matches.
Manitou Springs (243) wins Tri-Peaks League meet
At Sumo Village: Senior Trevor Hunt (-79) helped lead Manitou Springs to victory over 10 teams at the Tri-Peaks League meet in Florence. Teammate Drew Mendoza (-80) finished one stroke back and fourth overall.
