JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will continue weekend ferry service that it started to help travelers who normally take PATH trains into and out of Manhattan.

PATH service between Jersey City's Exchange Place and World Trade Center stations is closed most weekends throughout 2014 while the agency makes repairs and upgrades the rail lines to install a new safety system.

The agency says nearly 10,000 passengers have used the ferries under a six-week pilot program.

The ferries sail between Paulus Hook Terminal and the World Financial Center Terminal between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturdays and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.

The fare will be $2.50 one-way, or $5 roundtrip.
