A 51-year-old police officer arrested on drug charges Tuesday also faces charges for careless driving, leaving the scene of accident, and failing to report the accident to police, court documents state.
Colorado Springs police Officer Jeffrey Warkocz was set to be arraigned on Aug. 1 for the careless driving charges. He is additionally accused of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deceit, a class-four felony drug charge, the department said in a news release.
According to court documents, the careless driving incident happened on April 19, and a complaint was filed in May.
Warkocz is in the process of getting divorce from his wife Lana Fore, who said her husband's arrest was a "shock." Fore said that she saw no indications to suggest that he was involved in any type of illegal activity.
Warkocz, who has been with the police department since 2002, was placed on administrative leave with pay, police said. He will be advised in court on July 2. He was released from jail on $1,000 bond.
