A bizarre sequence of events ended Sunday night with a man being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound, Colorado Springs police said.

The man told police he was attacked by dogs as he walked home from a friend's house about 10:30 p.m. After he fought the dogs off he was standing by the 7-Eleven near West Bijou and Spruce streets when his arm was injured again. He told police he thought his lighter had exploded.

But it turned out he'd been shot, and police said they confirmed the unusual events through witnesses statements, evidence and time-stamped photos.

Anyone with information can call police at 444-7000.
