Mark Terry Garcia, 46, of Colorado Springs has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault last week near the Hillside Community Center, police said.
Garcia is being held at the El Paso County jail on suspicion of second-degree sexual assault on a $500,000 bond, records show.
Colorado Springs police said Garcia was suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in broad daylight around 2 p.m. last Wednesday. The woman was walking in the area of Fountain Boulevard and Hancock Expressway when a man hit her in the head and dragged her into a nearby creek area, where she was sexually assaulted.
The Gazette does not typically identify sexual assault victims.
Police have not released information detailing how they tied Garcia to the sexual assault, or the time or place where he was taken into custody.
Garcia was scheduled to be advised at the El Paso County Courthouse Monday and his first appearance will be July 1, according to court records.
