Police chased and arrested a man Wednesday after witnesses reported seeing two men breaking into cars in a northeast Colorado Springs neighborhood.

Curtis Modrak, 25, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated motor vehicle theft and eluding a police officer, records show.

Residents on the 4600 block of Picturesque Circle, off North Carefree Circle, reported seeing two men trying to steal vehicles about 2:30 a.m., police said.

Two men were spotted fleeing in a Honda and police pursued the vehicle from the intersection of South Carefree Circle and Oro Blanco Drive. The vehicle crashed in the 2600 block of Oro Blanco Drive shortly after, police said.

Police and a K-9 unit tracked the driver, identified as Modrak, who had fled on foot. A police dog found Modrak hiding the window well of a nearby residence, police said.

Modrak was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries resulting from the contact with the police dog and was booked into the El Paso County jail after.

Police have not found the second suspect.

Anyone with information can call police a 444-7000.
