The Colorado Springs police bomb squad was called out to a neighborhood after construction workers discovered a suspicious device Friday morning.

At 11 a.m., officers were dispatched to 2000 block of Heatherdale Drive after reports that there was an unattended item which resembled a homemade explosive device. The bomb squad, fire department and medical personnel responded before the device was rendered safe, police said.

Law enforcement stayed on-scene for at least four hours.
