A man died after accidentally shooting himself in the leg Saturday, according to Colorado Springs police.

The shooting at the Lincoln Springs Apartments on the 1100 block of South Chelton Road was reported to police about 4:45 p.m. Saturday.

The victim's 19-year-old son told police his father was in another room working on a computer when he heard a gunshot. The son saw his father bleeding from the thigh before calling 9-1-1.

Police believe the victim was handling a gun, thinking it to be unloaded, when it fired and struck him in his upper thigh.

The man was transported to Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police have not released the identity of the victim.
