A pair of alleged shoplifters are in jail Friday morning after two 7-Eleven clerks say they were attacked after confrontations at the store.

Montinique Hill and Najee Jackson, both in their early 20s, were arrested shortly after midnight on suspicion of robbery and assault and were taken to the El Paso County jail.

According to police, the pair entered the 7-Eleven store at 330 S. Academy Blvd. and allegedly began shoving merchandise into their clothing. Police said a female clerk approached the men before they allegedly shoved her out of the way and ran from the store.

A male clerk apparently followed Hill and Jackson into the parking lot to get a license plate number if the men were driving away in a vehicle. Police said the clerk was allegedly assaulted by one of the men and several pieces of merchandise were found scattered outside the store.

Police found the second suspects "several blocks away" and made the arrest.

The male clerk was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the woman was not injured, police said.
