A man who is suspected of shooting at a Colorado Springs police officer was arrested Thursday in Manitou Springs, Colorado Springs police spokeswoman Barbara Miller said.
Frank Goad, 54, was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer after a two-day manhunt. He was jailed late Thursday, but bond information was not available.
Police said they wanted Goad off the streets.
"He's dangerous. He obviously shot at an officer," police Sgt. Joe Matiatos said after a K9 unit and members of the SWAT team searched Thursday for Goad at a warehouse on Delta Drive in southeast Colorado Springs.
"He could shoot at anybody, and we want him off the streets pretty bad," he said.
Police followed several leads on Goad's whereabouts Thursday, Miller said.
"We're going to pursue every lead," she said before Goad's capture. "We're afraid of what he might do because we know he's armed and dangerous."
Before the search at the warehouse, police looked for Goad at a mobile home park near Fillmore Street and Mark Dabling Boulevard. The mobile home park is close to Goose Gossage Park, which is where Goad allegedly exchanged fire with police on Tuesday.
Police also were reviewing surveillance footage from a 7-Eleven store that was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night to determine if the robber was Goad. The 7-Eleven at 2530 Hancock Expressway, which is close to the warehouse that police searched, was robbed about 10 p.m.
The robber stole an undetermined amount of money, beer and cigarettes, police said.
The description of the robber from the store clerk was similar to the description of Goad, police said.
"Detectives are going over the video and witness statements to determine if the armed robber was in fact Goad," Miller said.
Miller said late Thursday she didn't know whether investigators had made a positive identification of the person in the surveillance video.
