One man was injured Saturday night after he drove his motorcycle into the back of a sedan on Powers Boulevard in southeast Colorado Springs, police said.

Witnesses told police that the motorcyclist was speeding southbound on Powers near Astrozon Boulevard around 6 p.m., traveling as fast as 100 miles per hour, when he rear-ended a Ford Fusion, destroying his Honda motorcycle and creating a debris field spanning hundreds of feet.

The rider, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to the hospital and was last listed in stable condition,
Sgt. Missy Reynolds said.

The driver of the Ford was uninjured, though the back side of the car was damaged. Police are considering alcohol as a factor in the crash, and charges are pending against the motorcyclist.

“He is the at-fault party,” Reynolds said.

Southbound Powers was closed at Astrozon for about two hours while police investigated the crash.
