DETROIT (AP) — A staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force has been fatally shot in Detroit.

Authorities say Johnny Clyburn's death Tuesday is unrelated to his work at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County. His fiancee also was shot.

Detroit police spokeswoman Nicole Kirkwood says the 19-year-old son of Clyburn's fiancee was captured three miles away.

Clyburn was a 21-year veteran of the Air Force and a member of the 127th Security Forces Squadron. In a statement, the Selfridge base says it has "lost a valued member" of its team.
