LAKEWOOD — Police are investigating a threat by a former student against Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, Jefferson County Public Schools said Monday afternoon.

“We want you to know that a potential threat involving Bear Creek High School, made by a former student, has been reported to Lakewood police,” the school district said in a letter to parents. “This matter is now being investigated by law enforcement and because of that; additional details can’t be shared at this time. However, you will see increased police presence around the school.”

No confirmed danger was reported as of 4:15 p.m.

“We want to reinforce the importance of talking with your student about reporting any and all potential safety concerns to you and to the school, no matter how insignificant they believe it might be, because this  helps all us  remain safe,” the district said.
