A beloved downtown watering hole that’s been a go-to spot for the city’s serious craft beer crowd since 2010 is no more.
Brewer’s Republic served its last beer Tuesday night. By early evening Wednesday, owner Jeff Haigh and his son were packing up a U-Haul parked outside the North Nevada Avenue business and collecting condolences from disappointed regulars who’d stopped by hoping the rumor wasn’t true.
The decision to close came after a recent fire inspection revealed major - and, for Haigh, cost prohibitive - issues in the historic building, which houses a commercial kitchen.
The closure also includes Haigh’s other operations at 110 N. Nevada Ave., The Underground Pub and Subterranean Nightclub, the city’s largest gay dance club. Haigh took over the businesses in 2016 when owners Jerry Morris and Tom Halfast left to found Cerberus Brewing Co.
