Pikes Pick: Three movies that could be locks for Academy Award season

Now is the season when Hollywood rolls out its Academy Award-worthy flicks. I have three on my radar. Greta Gerwig is being praised for her directorial debut in "Lady Bird," a coming-of-age tale.

I'll see anything from Richard Linklater, especially if it involves Steve Carell, below, and Bryan Cranston playing Vietnam vets in "Last Flag Flying." And I'm curious about "The Shape of Water" (Dec. 8), the next fantasy from Guillermo del Toro that is a personal one for the filmmaker.
