Pikes Pick: 'The Post' is an important flick worth seeing

Steven Spielberg, plus Meryl Streep, plus Tom Hanks equals Oscar nomination. Of course. But see past your annoyance of the Academy's formula and see "The Post," playing at theaters around town.

Among others up for best picture, it's not as magical ("The Shape of Water") or as heart-rending ("Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"). Actually, among the nine, it might be the corniest. But in telling the story of how The Washington Post rose to prominence with the Pentagon Papers and an underdog female publisher, the movie feels the most important.
