The annual Special Olympics Colorado Winter Games opened Saturday with figure skating and speed skating state championships at South Suburban Ice Arena in Centennial.

The two-day Winter Games continues tomorrow with alpine skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and cross country skiing at Copper Mountain. The competitions begin at 10 a.m. and will be completed by 3:30 p.m.

The Closing Ceremonies for Winter Games (at the Copper Mountain Conference Center), like the competitions throughout the weekend, are free and open to the public.

The traditional fireworks show at Copper Mountain to celebrate Winter Games will begin at approximately 5:45 p.m. from Copper Mountain Center Village.
