Gazette Premium Content Peyton couple lose home to early morning blaze

By Andrea Sinclair Published: March 24, 2014

A couple were forced to evacuate their home in Peyton when it was destroyed by a fire Monday morning.

The mobile home on the 19800 block of Scott Road, east of Peyton Highway, was determined a total loss by Peyton fire crews.

The blaze was reported about 12:33 a.m. and may have ignited in the back deck of the home, according to El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Jeff Kramer.

Both residents tried to put the fire out with extinguishers but the flames spread too quickly and grew out of control.

The Red Cross assisted the couple to find other housing.

The cause of the fire will be determined by the sheriff's office arson investigator, Kramer said.
