Paul Klee's scorecard for the Chiefs at Broncos

Offense

Maybe it's the weed dispensary on every Denver corner, but it seems the D.A.R.E. program didn't go as planned. Let's try it with potential Broncos QBs: "Just Say No" to Alex Smith. There's a reason Jim Harbaugh (opted for Colin Kaepernick) and Andy Reid (drafted Patrick Mahomes) moved on.

Advantage: Chiefs

Defense

The division between the Broncos' offense and defense is alive and well: Shane Ray re-enacted the play in which Garett Bolles was blown up by Redskins pass-rusher Ryan Kerrigan, in full view of the Broncos' 'O.' Ray, by the way, is the first-rounder who's averaging four sacks per season.

Advantage: Broncos

Special teams

Let 2017 be known as the year when Broncos Country gained an appreciation for the value of special teams. And if there's one guarantee on Black Monday, it's that Brock Olivo will be relieved of his duties as the coordinator. The staff needed experience. Denver hired a rookie.

Advantage: Chiefs

Coaching

Has a first-round draft pick ever been more coddled than Paxton Lynch? From the shoulder injury that took two months to heal, to an ankle injury that kept him off the field (even at 90 percent), it's like the Broncos are afraid to hurt the young man's feelings. What a weird situation.

Advantage: Chiefs

Intangibles

The Chiefs check more boxes than the Broncos. The Chiefs also are locked into the No. 4 seed in the AFC playoffs. Kansas City gains nothing by winning Sunday. This one feels like an NFL bowl game, and bowl games are decided by which team cares more. The Broncos finish 6-10.

Advantage: Broncos

Klee's prediction: Broncos (-2.5) 12, Chiefs 9 (Straight-up record: 10-5; ATS record: 10-5)
