AURORA - History was made Friday night. And Palmer Ridge's football team accomplished the feat in spectacular, convincing fashion.

The Bears achieved the program's first 10-0 record with a 49-9 thumping of Vista Peak Prep at Aurora Public Schools Stadium. The win also gave Palmer Ridge an outright Class 3A East Metro League championship with a 5-0 record.

The Bears are headed into the postseason with state title aspirations.

"We've been working since last offseason," said senior cornerback Cameron Colangelo, who finished with two interceptions, including one that set up a score. "I think our football program is a yearlong sport. We were in the weight room two weeks after the end of last season, so I think that we knew the potential that we had."

Palmer Ridge took a 35-0 lead with 1 minute, 22 seconds left in the first quarter. The Bears then went ahead 42-0 early in the second - more than enough to put the game on a running clock.

Leading the way for the Bears was junior quarterback Ty Evans, who completed 9 of 13 passes for four touchdowns and 235 yards. The Arkansas commit also had an 18-yard TD run. All his stats came in the first half.

Zach Hester caught two touchdowns, and Noah Brom had two scores. Raef Ruel had perhaps the night's most stunning run, as he was hit a couple of times after a short catch and then muscled his way down the left sidelines for an 80-yard score.

"Raef is very impressive after contact," Palmer Ridge coach Tom Pulford said about the sophomore, who also had a 19-yard rushing touchdown. "That's something he has done a few times before."

In the second half, Vista Ridge scored on a safety and a 47-yard run by Tyrese Bailey against Palmer Ridge's second-team players.

The Bears dominated teams all season. Prior to Friday, they outscored opponents 412-67 and garnered three shutouts. That dominance was hard to ignore against Vista Peak Prep, which dropped to 4-6, 2-2. The Bison were ranked 22nd in the 3A RPI standings, while Palmer Ridge sat at No. 2.

"It's surreal just being able to have a perfect regular season for my senior year," Colangelo said. "It's awesome. It's been really fun."
