The theme for the 2013-2014 Optimist International Scholarship Essay Contest is "How Dreams Lead to Success."

The writing contest is for students under 19 years of age who have not yet graduated from high school or the equivalent and attend school in the United States, Canada or the Caribbean. Students living on U.S. military bases overseas also are eligible to enter, using their last U.S. home of record. Students interested in entering should contact their local Optimist Club. All contests are held by early February. Club contest winners progress to the district level. Club prizes are $100, $75 and $50 plus medallions. District winners receive a plaque and a $2,500 college scholarship.

To find a local Optimist Club contact, email programs@optimist.org. For more on the contest, go to http://www.optimist.org/e/member/scholarships3.cfm.
