Police said an officer was hit by a car while directing traffic at the scene of a head-on collision about 6:50 p.m Friday at Southgate Road and Nevada Avenue.

The officer, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.

An unidentified driver ignored the traffic blocks set up by police and hit the officer, police said.

Police are still trying to locate the vehicle, which is described as newer model, dark black or blue sedan, possibly a Nissan.
