NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City museum is featuring works by 45 artists from the Arab world.
"Here and Elsewhere" at the New Museum chronicles the Arab experience through social and political events.
It runs through Sept. 28.
Associate Director Massimiliano Gioni (mas-uh-meel-YAH'-noh JAH'-nee) says the show avoids generalizations about the Arab world.
The artists hail from 15 countries.
Gioni says that's a "giant part of the world" and it would be "naive" to portray it as a unified image.
The works trace adversity faced by Arab people through photos, paintings and videos.
It includes a film that documents the migration of Arab immigrants as they leave Africa to cross the borders into Europe.
Another work shows common objects that served to comfort their owners during war.
