A man who allegedly shot a dog in his north Colorado Springs neighborhood Thursday afternoon isn't expected to face charges, police said.

The physically disabled man "felt threatened in his front yard" by the unrestrained adult pit bull, police said. He fired at the dog once with a handgun, shooting it through the shoulder.

The incident happened shortly after 2 p.m. in the 1800 block of Chapel Hills Drive.

The dog is being treated.
