Sherri Hawkins, a former teacher and coach, has been appointed to a two-year term on the the Lewis-Palmer School District 38 school board.

She will serve District 1, which encompasses part of Monument and adjacent unincorporated areas in the northwest area of the school district.

Hawkins is a leader in the D-38 parent-teacher organization, a member of the building accountability committee, and a parent of two students at Palmer Lake Elementary School.

She was a high school teacher for six years in the Colorado Springs area, and coached school and club volleyball.

"Sherri Hawkins will definitely compliment this board in what experience she will be able to bring to the table," said board member Robb Pike, in an announcement.

She takes the place of Jeff Ferguson, former board president, who did not run for re-election in November.
