The deaths of who neighbors say was an elderly couple whose bodies were found early Saturday inside their home in southern El Paso County is being investigated as a double homicide, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff’s deputies discovered the bodies after being asked to check on the residents of the home in the 13500 block of Hobby Horse Lane shortly before 2 a.m., according to a news release.

No arrests have been made, and the Sheriff’s Office warned area residents to be “vigilant.”

The Sheriff’s Office did not identify the victims, but neighbors who asked that their names not be published said the people who lived in the home were Larry Nelson, 72, and his wife, Pamela Nelson, 70. The owner of the home where the bodies were found is Larry Nelson, according to El Paso County assessor’s records.

One neighbor said they received a call about 2 a.m. from the Nelsons’ daughter, who was “hysterical” and told them her parents were dead.

The home is in a remote area about five miles from Hanover Junior-Senior High School. The closest neighbor is about a mile away.

Neighbors described the area as safe and quiet, and were baffled why anyone would harm the Nelsons.

Although no suspect information has been released, the Sheriff’s Office asked, “If you see anything out of the ordinary for your area or have any information you feel might be pertinent to this investigation, please contact the Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 719-520-6666.”
