A rollover and multiple-vehicle crash closed the eastbound lanes of U.S. 24 west of Manitou Springs on Monday, according to Colorado State Patrol.
The wreck happened about 1:30 p.m. near mile marker 296 when at least one car rolled over. State patrol did not say how many vehicles were involved in the wreck, but there were no injuries reported.
A second crash added to the chaos when a car went around a turn too quickly and struck a fire truck that was responding to the first rollover, Sgt. Daniel Haley said. Shortly after that, a two-car collision was treated as a property damage case, possibly a result of the gridlock caused by the first two crashes, Haley said.
The rollover, possibly caused by icy road conditions or road treatments, blocked the right lane of eastbound U.S. 24 for nearly an hour, Reid said. A tow truck and state patrol cleared the crash around 2:40 p.m.
