DURANGO — A mountain lion has killed a fawn inside the Durango city limits.

The Durango Herald reports (http://tinyurl.com/mwdceal ) the attack occurred over the weekend in the northwestern part of the city.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Joe Lewandowski says wildlife officers removed the carcass to keep the mountain lion from returning to feed on it.

Lewandowski advised residents to keep outdoor pets in an enclosed area because deer that wander into Durango attract mountain lions.
