A motorcyclist died Sunday in El Paso County after hitting a deer, according to statement released by the Colorado State Patrol.

The man was traveling west on Rock Creek Canyon Road shortly before 8 p.m. when a deer came from the south side of the road and collided with his 2008 Harley Davidson, state patrol said.

The Harley rolled onto its left side and the driver was thrown nearly 20 feet before coming to rest just west of Colorado 115.

The driver, whose name was not released pending next-of-kin notification, was not wearing a helmet, state patrol said.
