A mother and her 3-year-old son were killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning in eastern El Paso County, the Colorado State Patrol said.
Nicole Enderle, 42, and her son Alexander, 3, of Yoder were killed when the Chrysler Town and Country minivan they were in was struck by an SUV that blew through a stop sign, according to Sgt. J.R. Mullins.
The minivan was traveling westbound on Judge Orr Road when it was was hit by the SUV heading south on Log Road.
The SUV, a Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Arica Vlach, 31, of Peyton, struck the passenger side of the van, forcing both vehicles off the road.
Vlach was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Enderle's daughter, 2-year-old Zoe, who was also riding in the minivan, was taken to Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Alcohol is being considered as a possible contributing factor in Vlach's failure to stop, Mullins said.
Troopers were called to the scene near Log Road just after 9 a.m. and Judge Orr Road reopened early afternoon after being closed while police investigated.
The Enderle familywore seatbelts while Vlach did not, according to Mullins.
"Charges are pending while the accident is under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol," Mullins said
