A 45-year-old woman who fell through the ice Saturday at a pond in Monument was rescued by nearby neighbors who heard her screams, according to the Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Protection District.

Two men heard the woman's cries for help at around noon and crawled out onto the ice to rescue her from the freezing water.

The woman ventured onto the ice to retrieve her dog from a lake located near Cabin Hill Lane and Pond View Place, just northeast of Highway 83 and Hodgen Road.

The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to Penrose Hospital. It's unknown how long she was in the water before rescue crews and paramedics arrived.
