Highlights from Monday's high school sports scene around the Pikes Peak region.
Heritage 6, Palmer 3
At Sertich Ice Center: Six players scored goals for Heritage (8-6, 8-1 Peak Conference) in a game that was marred by penalties - including two fighting game misconducts - as Palmer (7-7-1, 5-3-1) fell in a key league matchup.
Over the last seven minutes of the game 36 penalty minutes were assessed, along with the two game misconducts.
Connor Downs' goal for Palmer late in the second period cut the Heritage lead to 3-2 heading to the third. But the Eagles scored the next two goals to put the game out of reach.
Brandon Driscoll and Sam Horning also scored for Palmer.
Rampart 6, Coronado 2
At Sertich Ice Center: Gavin Johnson scored twice and had two assists and Wesley Moore netted two goals as Rampart (2-14, 2-8 Peak Conference) topped winless Coronado (0-16, 0-11).
Johnson posted two goals and an assist in the first period to help put the Rams up 4-0 at the first intermission.
The Rams scored the first six goals of the game, as Trey Williams and Kylin Duskus also tallied.
Christopher Phillips scored two power-play goals for the Cougars.
Cheyenne Mountain 10, Valor Chr. 5
At Sertich Ice Center: Doug Klopenstine and Brian Suslow each scored twice and six other players notched goals, as Cheyenne Mountain (6-7, 5-2 Peak Conference) topped Valor Christian (1-14, 0-10).
Nick Lacayo had a goal and assist, while Dakota Henn, Ryan Case, Keaton Allison, Greg Liquori and Drew Lazar also scored for the Indians.
Liberty 4, Air Academy 1
At Sertich Ice Center: Air Academy (5-9-2, 4-5-2) scored first, but Liberty (6-10-1, 4-8) scored four times in the final period to pull away in the league matchup.
Brayden French tied the game 2:20 into the third period, Jason Rivera scored twice around a Cameron Rathmell goal to lead the Lancers, who are two points out of a playoff spot, trailing three teams including the Kadets. Rathmell also added an assist.
Air Academy took the 1-0 lead on Nick Chiacchia's second-period goal.
Coaches elected to CHSCA Hall of Fame
Carl Fetters and Mike Provenzano were elected to the Colorado High School Coaches Association over the weekend.
Fetters spent 30 years coaching the Cheyenne Mountain football team, while Provenzano won four state titles in hockey while at Palmer and Cheyenne Mountain.
