HOCKEY

Doherty 8, Pueblo County 0

At Sertich Ice Center: Brennan Ward had a hand in five of Doherty's eight goals, notching a hat trick and two assists, as the Pikes Peak region No. 2 Spartans (7-4, 4-3 Peak Conference) knocked off conference foe Pueblo County (6-4-2, 3-4) to move into sole possession of eight place on Monday.

Ward scored two in the first and finished his three-goal performance with an unassisted goal to end the scoring late in the third period.

Jordan Barrett's game-opening goal just seven seconds in to prove the game winner. He added a second in the second period, while Noah Barrett, Dillon Dunlop and Ty Snyder also scored.

Brandon Velasquez turned aside all 23 shots for the shutout.

The top eight teams in each conference advance to the playoffs.

 

Liberty 8, Coronado 0

At Sertich Ice Center: Kyle Helton scored three times, Alex McAfee and Jason Rivera twice each, and Cameron Rathmell had five assists, as Liberty (4-8-1, 2-6) shut out Coronado (0-12, 0-6).

Helton scored two in the first and one in the third, while Rathmell had an assist in every period - two in the second.

Nathan Watts also scored.

 

Bishop Machebeuf 6, Air Academy 0

At Sertich Ice Center: Air Academy (5-6-1, 4-2-1) was shut out for the fifth time this season, as Bishop Machebeuf's Jack Longenecker scored two goals and added three assists and Noah Hernandez scored two goals.

Bishop Machebeuf (7-3-1, 6-2) held the Kadets to 10 shots, while putting 39 on Air Academy goalie Alex Long.

 

Heritage 5, Rampart 2

At Sertich Ice Center: Heritage (5-5, 5-1) scored the first five goals to put the game out of reach early.

Mitchell Kinzer and Gavin Johnston scored for the Rams (1-10, 1-5), who managed just 12 shots on net.
