Monday's prep roundup: Air Academy softball keeps rolling

SOFTBALL

Air Academy 10, Mesa Ridge 0 (4 1/2 innings)

At Air Academy: The Kadets kept rolling and won their third consecutive game after blanking the Grizzlies (10-6) in the nonconference game.

The Kadets (10-5) scored in each inning, including a five-run fourth, and have outscored their last three opponents 54-2.

Sheridan Wayne and Lindsay Holloway each drove in three runs, and Cassidy Horn notched her 10th win in the circle.

Air Academy remains one game ahead of Vista Ridge and Discovery Canyon in the 5A/4A Pikes Peak Athletic Conference.

The Kadets will travel to Cheyenne Mountain in a battle of league rivals on Thursday.

Discovery Canyon 7, Pueblo West 0

At Pueblo West: Corah Price struck out 11 and didn't give up a run as the Thunder (13-3-1) blanked the Cyclones (11-5), and Price notched her 13th win.

Kayden Rodgers and Alissa Madrigal each had two RBIs, and Sami Edwards homered for the Thunder.

Discovery Canyon and Vista Ridge remain tied for second place in the league standings behind Air Academy.

The Thunder will host the Wolves on Wednesday in the final league game for both teams. Air Academy has two league games remaining against Cheyenne Mountain and Falcon.

Ponderosa 7, Vista Ridge 0

At Vista Ridge: The Mustangs (8-9-1) scored five runs in the fourth inning, while the Wolves (12-6) had trouble finding any offense before falling in the nonconference match up.

Vista Ridge had seven hits but couldn't manage a run.

Pine Creek 8, Rampart 2

At Pine Creek: The Eagles (11-6, 10-0 5A CSML) remained perfect in league games after taking an early lead with runs in each of the first three innings and another two in the sixth to put the game out of reach for Rampart (11-5, 8-2).

The Rams had one more hit than the Eagles, but Rampart also committed four errors.

Alex Hill and Brittany Head each had an RBI for the Rams.

Katie Spieth led the Eagles with three RBIs.

Brooke Linden pitched six innings for Pine Creek and struck out 10 and gave up two earned runs in the process to earn the win.

Shelby Shepherd struck out four and allowed five earned runs in six inning of work for Rampart.

Coronado 15, Liberty 9

At Liberty: Alexandrea Arronte led all players with five RBIs, but the effort wasn't enough as the Lancers (3-12, 2-6 5A Colorado Springs Metro League) fell to the Cougars (3-12, 2-8) on Monday night.

Julie Callan had four RBIs for the Cougars and Erica Burkhart finished with three. Pitcher Kelly Jervay earned the win for Coronado.
