Gazette Premium Content Molesworth named curator of Los Angeles museum

Associated Press Updated: May 30, 2014 at 2:46 pm

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles has appointed Helen Molesworth as its new chief curator.

A longtime scholar, writer and curator, Molesworth joins MOCA from the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, where she served for four years.

The museum said in a release Friday that she will start the job Sept. 1.

Molesworth arrives at a time when fortunes appear to be turning for LA's only museum dedicated exclusively to contemporary art.

After several years of financial turmoil, MOCA announced in January that it had quadrupled its endowment to more than $100 million with an ambitious, nine-month fundraising drive.

The museum holds a large collection including numerous works by Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Mark Rothko, Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, and Ed Ruscha.
