A 20-year-old man suspected of looting in the Waldo Canyon fire evacuation zone in 2012 is in custody in the Pueblo County jail, police said Monday.

Colorado Springs police said Graylon Thomas allegedly stole a car from an evacuated home and then filled it with items plundered from another home in the area. Detectives found the car and recovered the stolen property.

Authorities, who identified Thomas as a suspect last December, said DNA is a crucial factor in the investigation.

Police are working to identify at least one suspected accomplice, and have not determined if Thomas is a suspect in other burglaries that occurred in the evacuation zone.

Thomas is being held in the Pueblo County jail on a unrelated case that includes assault on a peace officer, violation of bail bond conditions, and violating a protection order, according to Pueblo County jail records.

A warrant related to the burglary has been issued for his arrest, police said.
