Man shot by Fountain police during standoff identified

By Andrea Sinclair Published: November 13, 2013

A man fatally shot by police during a standoff in Fountain on Monday was identified Tuesday as Jonathan Clark, 25, according to a news release from the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

Clark was shot in the chest and hand during a standoff with two Fountain police officers, and died at a hospital. The officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings. The D.A.'s office will investigate the shooting, according to the release.

There was a car crash and a report of shots fired at about 5 p.m. Monday on Crest Drive, where officers found a man in a vehicle holding a weapon, Fountain Police Chief Todd Evans said.

"At that point they attempted to speak with him for several minutes to try to get him to put down the weapon, but the end result was that there were shots fired," he said.

"We hate these scenarios and it's always sad when this happens. Our hearts go out to everyone's families and loved ones who are affected by this."
