What began as a harmless exchange outside a skating rink in Memorial Park quickly turned dangerous Tuesday night, when a man told police he was held at gunpoint.

According to the victim, he was waiting for his girlfriend outside the Sertich Ice Center, located at 1605 E. Pikes Peak Ave., around 10 p.m., when an unidentified male approached him and asked to use his cell phone.

After making several calls, the man suddenly pulled a handgun out and ordered the victim to hand over anything else of value, police said.

The victim said he did not have any money or valuables on him, so the gunman took off in a blue 1995 or 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier, avoiding police.

The suspect was described in his late teens or early 20s, with medium build and a short afro hairstyle, police said.

Anyone with information about this crime can call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
