A man who was found with multiple gunshot wounds Friday evening near Helen Hunt Falls was pronounced dead at a hospital, Colorado Springs police said.

A person has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with the case, but police would not release the suspect's name or any other details of the arrest.

The victim's name was not released, pending an autopsy and notification of next of kin, police said. He was found about 8:40 p.m. Friday near 2210 N. Cheyenne Canyon Road.

Colorado Springs Police Sgt. Bradley Pratt said El Paso County Sheriff's deputies assisted at the scene because detectives were unsure which department had jurisdiction in the Helen Hunt Falls area.

"If you're on one side of the road you're literally in the county and if you're on the other side of the road you're in city proper," Pratt said.

Police took over the investigation Saturday morning.

Officers barricaded Cheyenne Mountain Road at Columbine Trail head and a Helen Hunt Falls parking lot Friday night; the road reopened just before 8 a.m. Saturday.

Police ask anyone with information to call (719) 444-7000.
