A man whose body was found early Wednesday in the front yard of a home in northeast Colorado Springs has been identified as Juan Carlos Lopez-Herrera, 38, of Colorado Springs, police said Thursday.
Lopez-Herrera died of stab wounds and his death has been ruled a homicide, police said.
His body was found just after midnight as police were investigating a call of a disturbance at 8265 Camfield Circle, northeast of Austin Bluffs Parkway and East Woodmen Road.
Later Wednesday, Elton Lamar Johnson, 20, of Colorado Springs, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in the death, police said.
James Koken, owner of the Camfield Circle house, told The Gazette Thursday he had been renting the property to Lopez-Herrera and his 34-year-old wife Kristina, for nine months. Koken said they had a young son and Kristina had moved out recently. El Paso County court records show Lopez-Herrera and his wife filed for divorce March 20 and the proceedings were in progress at the time of his death.
Johnson is being held at the El Paso County jail on a $50,000 bond and has several other open warrants for driving under the influence, prison records show. His first court appearance is scheduled for May 16.
This was the city's 14th homicide of 2013.
