A man at Kelly O'Brian's Sports Bar berated two women for their sexual orientation early Saturday morning before hitting them and a staff member and fleeing the scene, police reported.

The suspect fled the bar at 239 N Academy before police arrived just before 2 a.m. Police said Rick Martinez II, 33, was later arrested and charged with bias motivated crimes, a felony.

Witnesses told police the man made comments regarding the women's sexual orientation and verbally abused them before hitting them and a bar tender who tried to intervene, according to police reports.
