A man died Wednesday after falling about 20 feet into an alley behind the bus station in downtown Colorado Springs, police said.

The man fell from a fire escape and onto a metal stairwell at 115 E. Kiowa St. Police are calling the fall an "industrial incident," and say no foul play is suspected.

According to police, workers from a local construction company were on the building preparing it for upcoming work when the man fell. The man was attempting to use the building's fire escape when it became dislodged, causing it to fall, police said.

The man died on scene from his injuries.

People crowded at the corner of Kiowa and Tejon streets around 2 p.m. to see what was going on, and caught a glimpse of the scene: the body covered by a white sheet as emergency responders waited for the El Paso County coroner's office to arrive.

The man had not been identified as of Wednesday evening.
